Practical support. Local connections. Conservation that fits your farm.

Kansas Wheat and Kansas State University are working with growers, crop advisors, and Extension agents to support conservation practices on Kansas farms with winter wheat in their crop rotation.

The project is supported by a grant awarded to the Kansas Wheat Commission Research Foundation through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s (NFWF) Conservation Partners Program.

Beginning in the fall of 2026, this three-year project connects producers with conservation planning, technical assistance, financial assistance opportunities, and a peer-to-peer network where growers can learn from one another.

Our goal is to support conservation practice adoption on 200,000 acres, including 100,000 acres with conservation plans used by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

Connecting growers with conservation resources

The project team can help growers explore conservation options, develop plans, and navigate existing farm bill conservation programs through NRCS, as well as other conservation funding opportunities. These programs may provide technical and financial assistance for eligible practices.

Assistance depends on program eligibility, application requirements, and available funding. Contact us to discuss which opportunities may fit your operation.

Learning from other growers

Conservation decisions often start with practical questions: How will this work in my rotation? What happens in a dry year? What equipment will I need?

Our peer-to-peer network brings growers together with other local growers, crop advisors, Extension agents, and technical specialists to discuss those questions. Through field events, producer meetings, and ongoing connections, participants can share what has worked, what has been challenging, and what they have learned.

How to get involved

Growers: Contact us to discuss your operation, explore conservation practices and assistance opportunities, or connect with other producers. We also welcome growers who want to share their experience with conservation practices.

Crop advisors: Help identify opportunities that fit your clients’ operations, connect interested growers with the project, and learn about project training and participation opportunities. You may be eligible to receive 0.75 per acre for growers you refer to us or assist with enrollment.

Start with a conversation. Tell us where you work or farm, your role, and what you would like to learn or accomplish. Complete Contact Form to have someone reach out to you if you’d like to learn more.
