The popularity of the split-level home design may have decreased since the 1970s, but the popularity of these bar cookies has not.
Ingredients
1 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
1 (6-ounce) package cream cheese
⅓ cup evaporated milk
½ cup chopped pecans
½ teaspoon almond extract, divided
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup granulated sugar
½ cup margarine or butter
Directions
- Combine chocolate morsels, cream cheese, and milk in saucepan. Melt mixture over low heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in pecans and ¼ teaspoon almond extract. Set aside to cool.
- Combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, margarine, and ¼ teaspoon almond extract. Beat at low speed until fine particles are formed. Press half of the mixture in greased 9 x 9-inch pan. Spread chocolate mixture on top.
- Top with remaining crumbs. Bake in preheated 375°F oven approximately 30 minutes, or until tested done. Cool; cut into bars.
