- Kansas wheat photography contest entries due by September 3
All Kansas amateur and professional photographers are invited to capture the story of Kansas wheat by entering the 2014 Kansas Wheat Photo Contest at the State Fair in Hutchinson. The contest, sponsored by the Kansas Wheat Commission, is for photographs featuring all phases of the wheat industry in Kansas that will be used to promote Kansas as the leading wheat producer in the United States.
Any subject featuring wheat may be entered into the contest including seeding, storage, wheat fields, harvest, custom harvest crews, grain trade, milling, wheat products, baking and more. All entries will become property of the Kansas Wheat Commission after the contest, but the commission does not purchase exclusive rights to the photos. The top five photographs will be awarded a cash prize.
Contest entries must include a printed version of the photograph with enlargements of 4x6” or larger mounted on a proportionate mat not to exceed 16x20”, plus a digital copy of the photograph which may be submitted on a disk. The digital version must have a resolution of 300 dpi so they may be used in publications and on the Kansas Wheat website, www.kswheat.com.
Digital versions of each photograph will be used in the making of the 2014 Kansas Wheat Photo Contest video. This video is an effort to illustrate the beauty and importance of wheat to the state of Kansas while celebrating the talents of those photographers who enter the contest. E-mail addresses are required upon entering the contest in order to receive the video. The video will also be posted on the Kansas Wheat website and the Kansas Wheat YouTube channel.
Photographs must be taken by the person making the entry, but the contestant does not need to have processed the film or photographic print. No “signed” prints may be entered into the contest. The photographs may have been taken at any time, entered in other contests and previously published. Published photos will be credited. Negatives or transparencies of selected photos must be submitted on request.
Any Kansas resident is eligible to enter except employees of the Kansas Wheat Commission or the State Department of Agriculture and their families.
Entries may be mailed to and received by the State Fair Office at 2000 N. Poplar St, Hutchinson, KS 67502 by Labor Day, Monday, September 1. Any entries submitted after Labor Day can be brought to the Oz Gallery on the Kansas State Fairgrounds from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2 and from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3.
