Derek Sawyer was appointed to the Kansas Wheat Commission in 2019.
As a fourth-generation farmer, he raises wheat, corn, soybeans, grain sorghum and feed on his family’s farm in McPherson County. He also runs an Angus-based commercial cow herd, operates a starter/backgrounding feedlot, and raises bred heifers. Derek recently started Sawyer Family Angus raising registered Angus bulls and heifers to sell. Over the years Derek has been heavily involved with Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Livestock Association and Leadership Kansas (2012). He is a registered high school football official and enjoys spending Friday evenings in the fall on the football field.
Derek and his wife, Katie, have two boys, Evan and Owen.
