David Frey is the Development Professional for the Kansas Wheat Commission Research Foundation. His duties include support and promotion of private and publicly funded wheat research efforts.
Much of Frey’s career has been working for Kansas wheat producers, starting in 1978. His roles with the Kansas Wheat Commission have included Director of Public Affairs, Assistant Administrator and Administrator (Executive) for nine years, from 1996-2005.

This work included oversight of grain storage construction, water wells and training programs. Then, more recently, he served as a Deputy Chief of Party and Regional Site Manager for University of California, Davis, in projects supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and USAID, working with Afghanistan Ministry of Agriculture extension workers and arranging for demonstration farms and programs with visiting expert trainers in multifaceted aspects of agriculture, including soil science, horticulture, orchard, cereal and livestock production. The regional office for this work was northern Afghanistan, Mazar-e Sharif.
Frey has also worked as a consultant and liaison for the Flour Fortification Initiative, including extended travel to India and regions in Asia and Africa in advocacy of using wheat flour as a carrier for adding vitamins and minerals to otherwise substandard diets.
Early in his career, Frey worked as a radio broadcaster in Kansas, Idaho and Colorado.
